Genesys Logic Showcases USB 3.0 Storage & HUB Applications at IDF2010 Date:2010/09/13

[ Taipei, Taiwan ]

Genesys Logic, a leader in mixed-signal & high-speed I/O ICs, will participate in the upcoming Intel Developer Forum San Francisco (IDF2010) from Sep. 13th to 15th and demonstrate the SATA bridge controller (GL3310) for external hard drives, the super speed flash card reader controller (GL3220), and the 4-port HUB controller (GL3520) in the SuperSpeed USB Community section of the exhibit hall. After IDF2010, Genesys Logic will also participate in the DTF 2010 New Generation Storage Technology Development & Application Design Forum, hosted by DIGITIMES at the Westin Hotel, Taipei on Sep. 16, to present its USB 3.0 storage products.

GL3310 USB 3.0 to SATA 3Gb/s bridge controller features an assortment of advanced I/O technologies, such as USB 3.0 PHY, USB 2.0 PHY, and SATA PHY, all developed in-house by Genesys Logic and certified by USB-IF (TID: 340000005). GL3310 not only inherits the market-leading performance-price ratio from Genesys Logic’s previous USB 2.0 to SATA product but also improves the data throughput sevenfold over current USB 2.0 devices while maintaining the compatibility with various USB hosts and SATA devices. To meet the energy efficiency required by an external large-capacity high-RPM hard drive, GL3310 is designed with special low-power analog and digital circuitry to achieve high-speed data transmission with ultra low power consumption. Furthermore, with a flexible user interface featuring two SPI interfaces, PWM controls, watchdog timers, UART monitoring interface, and various general purpose I/Os (GPIO), GL3310 is capable of meeting customers’ diversified requirements in product design. Already in production, GL3310 is available in two options of packages: 64-pin LQFP and 48-pin QFN.

GL3220, Genesys Logic’s latest USB 3.0 product, is a super speed flash card reader controller that has also been certified by USB-IF (TID: 340000020). With USB 3.0’s 5Gb/s speed, GL3220 can easily support all high-speed memory card specifications available in the market such as CF v5.0 UDMA6 (Max. speed: 133MB/sec), SD v.3.0 (Max. speed: 104MB/sec), MS PRO-HG (Max. speed: 60MB/sec), and the new-generation large-capacity SDXC & MSXC memory cards (Max. capacity: 2TB). In view of microSD’s usage as the storage media of new-generation mobile phones, both conventional CF/SD/MS/xD-picture interfaces and the microSD interface are supported by GL3220. It enables a customer’s product to have all 5 independent memory card slots for the end user’s convenience. To lower the total system cost, GL3220 is manufactured in standard 0.13 μm CMOS process and has built-in power regulators to transform the supplied power from 5V to 3.3V and from 3.3V to 1.2V as well as a built-in power switch that controls the power to those 5 sets of memory cards so that a customer can build a most cost-effective USB 3.0 card reader. GL3220 is available in 128-pin LQFP package and has multiple GPIOs in the hardware to allow customization by different customers.

Sporting USB 3.0 PHY developed in-house by Genesys Logic and a USB 2.0 hub core from the highly acclaimed GL850G/GL852G (the leader in USB 2.0 hub market share), the GL3520 USB 3.0 Hub controller provides not only USB 3.0’s high data throughput but also backward compatibility with USB 2.0/USB 1.1 devices and hosts. Furthermore, GL3520 supports the latest fast charge function defined in USB-IF’s USB Battery Charging (Rev. 1.1) specification to substantially curtail time spent in charging a handheld device and bring more convenience to the consumers.
